Wind developers often cite research and statistics that indicate industrial wind turbines and industrial wind farms do not negatively impact land values. The problem with these studies is that they are conducted or funded by the wind energy industry or government agencies that have a vested interest in the outcome of the research.
Below are two studies performed by independent appraisal firms, one in Texas and the other in Wisconsin. Different appraisal groups studying land values in different states found similar results: industrial wind turbines and wind farms decrease property value between 12% and 40%.
